Ben Mirin
Sound Artist
Ben Mirin is an acoustic biologist, science communicator, educator, artist and media producer. He is currently a Ph.D. Candidate at the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics at the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology , a Graduate Research Fellow of the National Science Foundation, and a Fulbright Hays Fellow. His research focuses on co-creating community-based education programs about songbirds in Indonesia, and explores how we can reach the hearts and minds of young people to affect a more inclusive and sustainable future for all life on earth.
The Sounds of Music
Ben Mirin is a sound artist. He is the creator and host of the digital series WILD BEATS. Ben travels the world recording animal sounds and samples them to create music that connects people to nature. He leads expeditions to record and catalog acoustic data from many of the planet’s most endangered ecosystems.
In this chapter's Performance Task students will discover how sound is transmitted and investigate how musical tones, known as octaves, are grouped on a piano.
